Crater safari lodge is located at the edge of kibale national park in western part of Uganda which is a home of number of chimpanzees. The lodge is stunning with raised platform giving the best view of Lake Nyinabulitwa which is the second largest lake in Uganda from Lake katwe, mountains of the moon rangers, tropical forest of kibale park and many more.
The lodge accommodates 21 cottages which some are singles, doubles, bandas and family that are built in African architecture and modern styles where rooms are contained with king beds that are furnished, clean floor, mosquito nets, sofa chairs, desks, bathrooms with hot and cold showers, flushing toilets, with balcony giving the best view of tropical forest and other beautiful sceneries like crater lakes and ranges of mt Rwenzori with flora and fauna.
The Crater Safari lodge offers free parking, free wi-fi where visitors chat with friends and families overseas, relaxing in a swimming pool whether adults and young, visitors ordering cold or warm drinks from the bar whether alcoholic or non- alcoholic, having indoors or outdoors delicious meals that are international or local prepared by professional chefs, laundry services, welcoming friendly and caring stuff members who makes visitors feel at home while at the lodge.
What are the activities to do while at the lodge?
Chimpanzee tracking and habituation.
Since that the lodge is positioned at the edge of the park that is famously known for chimpanzees, it makes it the best destination for chimpanzee tracking and habituation. During Chimpanzee tracking and habituation, visitors are briefed to pack cameras, comfortable hiking boots, water & snacks, rain coat, caps, long trousers, long t-shirts, long stocking and many more. The chimp tracking and habituation can be done morning hours and afternoon hours starting with a briefing of dos and don’ts. The chimp tracking permit costs $200 per person and habituation permit costs $250 per person. While at the lodge, visitors will have a chance of spotted them in the forest as well as various bird species.
Nature walks and hiking.
With the help of guides at the lodge, visitors ae allowed to do nature walks and hikings with in the park or visiting Amabere nga Nyina Mwiru. Visitors may have nature walks at bigodi wetland sanctuary which will take about 2-3 hours footing within the forest. Visitors will spot farming of the local people like coffee, banana plantation, ground nuts, maize and more primates like chimps, red tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, black and white monkeys and various colored butter flies. Visitors may hike Amabere nga Nyina Mwiru where they will spot falls as well as get a chance to see the breasts of a princess who refused to marry the man the king (father) had chosen for her and punished by cutting one breast. Such story will be unforgettable to visitors who will have such experience on a Uganda safari.
Birding.
Since the lodge is at the edge of the park that is a home of 350 bird species, it makes the lodge a biding paradise for bird lovers. Birding activity may take half day or full day searching for various bird species like grey crowned crane, kingfishers, owl, sparrow, pin tailed whydah, long horned billed bird, vultures, great blue turacos, black bee eater, green -breasted pitta, grey- cheeked mangabey, slender-billed weaver, tropical boubou, Africa pied wagtail and many more.
How to access the park?
The lodge can be accessed by either by road or by flight from Kampala. By road transport, visitors will use mupende-Fort portal route using private or public vehicles or buses from Kampala taking about 5 hours to reach the lodge. While on the way, visitors will sport green vegetation, tea plantation, locale communities and many more.
However, visitors can access the lodge through a flight taking 2 hours to kasese airstrip where they will have 2 hours drive to the lodge.Visitors will spot crater lakes, Queen Elizabeth national park, kibale national park and many more.
