Elephant plains lodge is a luxurious lodge located at the edge of queen Elizabeth national park. The park is the second largest in Uganda from Murchison falls national park. The lodge offers 8 cottages which some are family rooms, double, twins and single rooms that are built into wilderness giving the best view of lakes and savannah grassland of the park and rooms are self-contained with flushing toilets, bath taps, hot and cold showers, towels, slippers, mirrors, hair drier, balicon and many more.
Elephant plains lodge is well designed in African architecture mixed with modern style thus making the lodge beautiful to stay. The lodge facilitates swimming pool for visitors to relax in as they enjoy the view of the park, well stocked bar with soft and hard drinks, restaurant where professional chef prepare delicious meals of your choice, laundry, and many more.
What to do while at the lodge?
Game viewing.
Despite the fact that the lodge is located at the edge of Queen Elizabeth national park, it makes the lodge the best destination for game viewing. Game viewing takes about 2-3 hours in the park searching for mammals like elephants, buffalos, mongoose, warthogs, water bucks, bush bucks, lions, leopards and various bird species. game viewing is done early morning and night hours to spot early risers and graciers in the park. While at the lodge, visitors may spot more wildlife species at cater lake kikorongo using binocular that is offered at the lodge.
Birding.
Elephant plains lodge is a birding paradise for bird lovers. While at the lodge, visitors will spot various birds since queen Elizabeth national park is a home of over 600 bird species. some of these birds are rare and others are migrating for example Hamerkop, Great White Pelicans, Pink-backed Pelican, Goliath Heron, Great Egrets, Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Intermediate Egret, flamingoes, grey crowned crane, great blue turacos, long horned billed bird, ring necked bird, kingfishers, Egyptian birds and many more.
Boat cruise.
In spite of the fact that the lodge is surrounded by water bodies of Lake Edward and lake George, it makes it the best destination for boat cruise for visitors. Boat cruise can be done morning, afternoon and evening hours depending on your choices. Best boat cruise is done in afternoon hours after game drive because various wildlife species are spotted along the lake shores like hippopotamus, crocodiles, elephants, buffalos, water bucks, bush bucks as visitors get a chance to get closer to them as they take many photos of their choice. However, during boat cruise, visitors may do sports fishing which is fun and memorable.
Nature walk.
Elephant plains lodge is the best destination for nature walk because it is surrounded by local communities however visitors may do nature walk into the park but with the help of guides. During nature walk, visitors may visit kasenyi market where they will shop African crafts as they support the locals and katwe community where they will learn the process of salt mining and visit kazinga channel and many more.
Nature walk involves footing and thus visitors participating in it are advised to be physically fit in order to have memorable time.
How to access the lodge?
The lodge can be accessed by either road or air transport from kajjasi or Entebbe international airport. By air transport, visitors many fly from Entebbe International airport or kajjasi which takes almost an hour to mweya airstrip in queen Elizabeth national park where the guide will pick you and have few drives to the lodge.
Where my road transport, visitors will have amazing road trip using private or public vehicles taking mupende- fort portal route taking about 8 hours to reach the lodge. Or visitors may also use Masaka -Mbarara route to reach the lodge how the route in longer than mupende -fort portal route but wothy it because both routes are adventurous due to beautiful sceneries like Rwenzori ranges, lake Mburo national park,lakes & Rivers, kazinga channel, kibale national park, various bird species, grey crowned crane, kingfishers, white egrets, eagles, owls, great blue turacos, and mammals like elephants, zebras in L. Mburo, buffalos, antelopes, spotted along the way. However, some visitors may use buses from kisenyi to kasese town where they will be picked and taken to the lodge.
